Colombo is the busiest place in Sri Lanka to meet someone new, and the easiest to meet them safely. Cafés, seafront promenades and shopping precincts stay open and populated well into the evening, so a first meeting never has to happen anywhere quiet.
Kandy
Kandy District · Central Province
Kandy is compact enough that almost any first meeting can happen within walking distance of the lake. That matters: you can arrive on your own, leave on your own, and never be far from other people.
Galle
Galle District · Southern Province
Galle gives you something most Sri Lankan cities do not: a walkable, permanently public place to meet in the Fort ramparts. You can spend an hour there without ever being out of sight of other people.
Jaffna

Jaffna is a close community, and that shapes how people meet here. Most people prefer somewhere central, unremarkable and easy to explain — which is exactly what makes a first meeting safe as well as comfortable.
Negombo

Negombo sits half an hour from the airport and an hour from Colombo, which makes it a common midpoint for people who live in different parts of the west. The lagoon side and the beach side feel like different towns, and only one of them is a good first meeting.

Batticaloa is built around its lagoon, and almost everything social happens on the town side of it. It is a small, well-connected place where a short public meeting is easy to arrange and easy to end.

Matara is a working southern town with a university, a busy bus stand and a long seafront. Nearly everything you need for a safe, short first meeting sits within a few hundred metres of the fort and the river mouth.
Trincomalee

Trincomalee is one of the most mixed towns in the country — Tamil, Sinhala and Muslim communities living side by side around one of the world’s great natural harbours. Meeting here usually means the town centre, not the beaches north of it.
