What meeting people in Galle is like
The Fort and the new town are two different evenings. The Fort is calm, well-lit and full of visitors until late; the bus stand and Main Street side is busier during the day and quieter after dark. Most people meeting for the first time here pick the Fort for exactly that reason.
Getting there and getting home
The Southern Expressway puts Galle about two hours from Colombo by bus, and the coastal railway runs frequently. Expressway buses stop running earlier than the coast road ones, so check before agreeing to a late plan.
Languages in Galle
Sinhala is the main language, with English widely understood in and around the Fort. Tamil is spoken in parts of the district.

Choose the place yourself, tell a friend where you are going, arrange your own transport both ways, and keep the first meeting short. Nobody worth meeting will mind.

Open, free, and busy from late afternoon until well after sunset. Several exits, all of them onto public streets.

A short, public walk between the Fort and the bus stand. Good as a meeting point rather than a destination.

Is Galle Fort a good place to meet someone for the first time?
It is one of the better ones in the south: public, walkable, well-lit and busy into the evening, with cafés and staff nearby if you want to move indoors.
Should I meet at a beach in Galle?
Not for a first meeting. Beaches such as Unawatuna are lovely but stretches of them are dark, isolated and far from transport. Meet in the Fort first and keep the beach for later, in daylight.
